Netflix’s Husbands in Action has taken the internet by storm. With several clips going viral, the film has quickly climbed into the platform’s top 5. In a recent exclusive interview, South Korean actor Jin Sun Kyu opened up about the movie’s massive success in India. He shared his thoughts on his favourite desi films and also named the Indian actors he dreams of working with someday. His warm and honest answers have only added to the film’s growing popularity.

Jin Sun Kyu On Indian Cinema And Actors

1. The movie has been going crazy viral on Netflix here in India and is in the Top 5. Since comedy is usually so hard to translate across cultures, did it surprise you that Indian fans connected so deeply with it?

A: Yes. Honestly, I was excited and curious about how audiences all over the world would take Korean comedy, and a little afraid of it too, because I had no idea how it would land. So to see this many people enjoy it and love it, and to see that show up in the rankings — and to hear today, while we’re doing this interview, that the film hit No. 1 worldwide among non-English films — I’m so happy. It makes me think a lot of people are connecting with this story and with Korean comedy. I’m really grateful. Today’s turning out to be a very good day.

2. Indian cinema is famous worldwide for its massive scale, action, and incredible music and performances. Have you had a chance to watch any Indian films or listen to any songs recently?

A: After 3 Idiots, I watched Aamir Khan’s Dangal, and before that there was another one, very colourful, full of music and dancing — I loved it. There’s a comedy segment on Korean TV right now that does a whole parody of Aamir Khan and Indian films and music, and I’ve been enjoying that as well. As someone who loves musicals, I’d say it’s genuinely rare to find films where the musical elements are woven in that precisely, that clearly — and I feel it constantly in Indian cinema. The music, the dance, the whole mise-en-scène — it all comes together so well. I can’t watch them often, but whenever one comes out I go looking for it.

3. With Korean and Indian content both dominating global streaming right now, the world feels a lot smaller. If a cross-cultural project came along, is there an Indian actor you’d love to share the screen with?

A: I’d love to meet the actors from the films. I know, like Dangal and 3 Idiots. Aamir Khan is someone I’d truly love to meet and, if I could, actually act alongside. And here in Korea, I have this dream of working with the younger generation — young actors, young directors — and getting inside their world for a while. In the same way, I hear there’s an Indian actor named Ishaan Khatter. If I ever got the time and the chance to work with young actors like him and hear what they think about acting and about their generation, I’d want to do it more than anything.
