A girl getting flashed on a busy road isn’t just another incident; it’s a chilling reminder of how unsafe it still is to simply exist as a woman in public. Many have experienced this in their daily lives, and it is always a hard thing to get over. During a recent chat with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, singer Dhvani Bhanushali opened up about a flashing incident she faced when she was a teenager.
What Dhvani Bhanushali Said
During the exclusive chat, Dhvani Bhanushali said, “Mumbai is much safer than Delhi. Growing up in Mumbai, I’ve had 2-3 incidents like this. One time, I was very young, and I was going to the doctor, and at that age, you don’t have that much awareness about what good touch or bad touch is. So someone just flashed themselves at me while they were walking. I was at the chemist shop with my mother, when I told her, she didn’t understand because I was 10 or 12 years old. And I had gone to the doctor because I had a lot of acne. This was in Ghatkopar, where I grew up.
But my mother didn’t understand, and I didn’t even know how to explain it to her because I was very young. So this got stuck in my mind because this was an unusual and disgusting thing that had happened to me. One time, someone came close to touching me, also. Again, I don’t want to normalise this because this is a bad thing and I hope that the men in our country know it.”
