The debate around male and female directors bringing different perspectives to the table has become prominent in today’s time. Well, many actors have also spoken about it based on their experiences in the industry. In an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly, Dhak Dhak actress Sanjana Sanghi also put forth her opinion on the same. She recently worked in an all-female-led film Dhak Dhak directed by Tarun Dudeja and shared her insights into the conversations around male and female directors. In her response, Sanjana also hailed director Tarun Dudeja for understanding the intricacies of a female character and presenting it through writing and direction.

Sanjana Sanghi was recently seen in Tarun Dudeja’s film Dhak Dhak along with Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film was hailed by critics for being a fresh take on the themes of women’s empowerment. The story of 4 women taking a bike ride to the highest motorable pass in India was told in a heartwarming yet hard-hitting way by the director. In a conversation with Hauterrfly, Sanjana Sanghi shared her understanding of having a male director make a female-led film and whether gender played a significant role in that.

Dhak Dhak Star Sanjana Sanghi Says “Gender Does Define The Way…”

To the question about noticing any significant difference between a male director and a female director making a female-led film, Sanjana Sanghi said, “Of course, there is a difference in male and female directing not just a female-led film but any kind of film. This is because gender defines experiences and emotional state in the way an individual views the world which in turn will reflect the difference in treatment of the story.” Elaborating on the same, Sanjana praised Dhak Dhak director Tarun Dudeja and writer Parijat Joshi and said, “Being men, they have been able to bring such reliability, honesty and nuance to each of the female characters, and have shown that it’s not just women who can represent women on-screen but men can do it well too!”
