Dalljiet Kaur On Ex-Husband Shalin Bhanot
Dalljiet Kaur tied the knot with Shalin Bhanot in 2009 at the height of her career. She recalled, “When I got married, I was 24-25 years old and doing one of the biggest shows of my life. Popularity and paise ki kami kabhi nahi thi.” However, her life took a sharp turn after marriage. She revealed, “When I got married, my in-laws told me ek chup sau sukh, whatever happens, stay silent and endure it. They said, ‘Jo bhi karega, chup chaap seh lo. Hamare saath hua hai, ab tumhare saath ho raha hai.’” For a while, Dalljiet believed this was the definition of marriage. “I thought this was what compromise meant, but there’s a huge difference between compromise and tolerating what’s wrong. Compromise is mutual, but enduring the wrong is like giving it a green light to multiply.”
The actress shared how her silence only encouraged more wrongdoing. “When something wrong happened, I told my in-laws. Their silence wasn’t just indifference, it became encouragement. If you don’t react to the wrong, it’s as good as giving it approval.” In 2013, Dalljiet finally decided enough was enough. She recalled, “Sabse bhayankar awaz maine 2013 mein nikali thi, when I lodged an FIR. It took a lot because I had just given birth to my son. But I realized if I didn’t act, things would only worsen.”

Dalljiet described the emotional toll of living in an environment where her voice was constantly silenced. “I would think, maybe this is what marriage is compromise, sacrifice, and silence. But over time, I realized silence only fuels the fire. The moment you endure something wrong, you invite more of it.” When asked for a specific example, she explained, “Suppose my husband did something wrong, and I told my in-laws about it. Instead of addressing it, they would remain silent. That silence became a message to him that it’s okay to continue. Their inaction was a direct encouragement.”
