Exclusive: Bhagyashree On Growing Up With A Strict Father: “I Was Asked To Wear Sarees At 13…”
Maine Pyaar Kia actor Bhagyashree reveals that she still sometimes get afraid of her father!

Growing up, most of us might have faced patriarchy from our family members including our fathers. While after time they do understand our choices, as kids such practices often affect the minds of young girls. During an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan, Bhagyashree expressed her father’s strictness towards her while growing up. She said that he told her to wear a saree at the age of 13 whenever they went to Sangli.
Bhagyashree’s Father Asked Her To Wear Sarees At 13
During a recent conversation, actor Bhagyashree was asked about facing restrictions from her parents while growing up. “Dad was very strict. If I was out for even 5 minutes after sundown, I would get in trouble. All the dos and don’ts were applied only to me because we were 3 sisters and they were given all the freedom. My youngest sister even took part in beauty contests.”
Bhagyashree continued, “Where I was concerned, I was asked to only wear sarees whenever we went to Sangli. This was when I was in the eighth standard, at 13 years old. The palla that we took on was not supposed to move at any cost. My parents even made me and my sisters sleep early. So, at night, we used to set alarms for midnight and we used to have midnight feats. We used to cook sandwiches, popcorn etc.”

Talking about growing up with patriarchy she said, “People now think that equality is important, but back then it used to be very patriarchal. We couldn’t oppose our father. Whatever he said would be the final decision. We couldn’t speak loudly, or even make eye contact. Even today I’m afraid of my father.”
