The decision to conceive a child is big for every woman. And when that doesn’t happen, it can take a toll on one’s mental health. During an exclusive chat with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist hosted by Siddharth Aalambayan, popular Indian actor Ashwini Kalsekar spoke about how she and her husband Murali Sharma wanted to have kids but couldn’t because of her kidney problem. The actor spoke about how her doctor denied her to have kids as it would either affect her or the baby.
Ashwini Kalsekar On Not Having Kids
When asked if she and her husband had ever considered having kids she said, “Honestly we did. But like I said, I had a kidney issue, and back then surrogacy wasn’t as popular. Even if we had known about it, we didn’t have the money to do so. We were still struggling and settling which we still are with EMIs and everything.”
She continued, “We tried a lot and at one point the doctor came to me just like in the films and said that my kidney won’t be able to take the load. He told me that I’d end up harming either myself or the child. And he later told me no. Whenever we host a party at my place, more than friends, doctors come to them because of my health issues. So we end up knowing doctors a lot more. So they tell me whatever is happening honestly.”

The Kasamh Se actor stated, “So after this surrogacy also didn’t happen and then I found myself at a certain age. At that age, a woman can’t mentally or physically have the strength to run after that little child. When I got my pets, I kept a nanny for them and I did everything I would do for a child because I was new at it. She was a trained nanny and whenever I sit for a prayer they sit beside me. They don’t even touch anything till I apply the tikka.”
Ashwini Kalsekar concluded by saying, “So that didn’t happen. I do feel bad because I am a traditional that way. I wanted to experience that full circle but didn’t have the fate. Maybe it’s because my parents and in-laws were supposed to be our children and I had to take care of them. Who knows.”
