The debate of the casting couch in the film industry has been in the conversation for decades. While many have come out and openly spoken about it, others have suffered some uncomfortable situations. And in an exclusive chat with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, hosted by Siddhaarth Aalambayan, Akanksha Chamola opened up about the same in a deep conversation. Read to know what she said here.
What Akanksha Chamola Said
During the exclusive chat, Akansha Chamola said, “So I have never seen a situation get to the casting couch personally, but there have always been compromise talks. Television is a very clean space, but if you want to jump the line, it’s a very tough place and a difficult situation if you don’t have a godfather backing you up. I was not that ambitious about any industry in particular, but I was like, if there’s an opportunity, I might as well go for a meeting.
And many a time, people are bold enough to talk about it in the first meeting itself. They say that we won’t be taking auditions and are on a contract basis, with a claim that says you have to be close to this person. It’s all very straightforward. They very blatantly write that this particular relationship will get you this role. It happened to me once or twice as well, where I was stunned at the harsh reality.”
Talking about shooting intimate scenes on set, Akanksha said, “You have to set your personal boundaries and have to talk about everything you won’t be doing before signing any show with such scenes. Like for me, I was very upfront about not doing any grinding, humping, or any of those shots, nor am I giving a backless shot. I was very clear that I won’t be doing such suggestive scenes.”
