The course will be the only one in Canada to focus on a Punjabi artist and is offered through The Creative School at TMU.

This major announcement was made at the Billboard Summit at NXNE in Toronto. This event also brought together crucial voices from across the music and media industries. The course will be all about the cultural, musical, and diasporic impact on the global stage. Dr. Charlie Wall-Andrews, Assistant Professor at The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University, said that they were very excited to pioneer a course on Diljit.

They said that Dosanjh’s influence on culture and the monetary potential on the music stage is crucial. By examining his impact, students will explore how regional sounds shape global pop culture, mobilise diasporic communities, and contribute to sustainable creative economies rooted in authenticity.
Dosanjh has transformed from a Punjabi regional sensation to a global legend in the last two decades. With 14 studio albums and 50 hits under his belt, he’s accomplished huge milestones: first Punjabi musician to light up Coachella’s stage in 2023, first Punjabi performer on a late-night talk show, and first turban-wearing performer at the Met Gala this year. His albums like MoonChild Era and G.O.A.T have been on everyone’s music lists, and he also made everyone proud by making his MET Gala debut!
