It’s very unusual to see K-pop stars who come from North Korea. But this rare thing is happening now with a new group called 1Verse. This group has five members: Hyuk, Seok, Nathan, Kenny, and Aito. The internet’s already waiting for their debut, and it is soon going to happen. The group will officially begin their journey on July 18. They will release their very first song, called ‘The 1st Verse’, on their official YouTube channel. If you want to know more about the two members who came from North Korea, read on!

Hyuk’s Journey

As reported by BBC, Yu Hyuk lived in one of the poorest areas in North Korea when he was only nine years old and had to beg on the street for food. Later, his father convinced him to join his mother, who had left North Korea and settled in South Korea. So, in 2013, Yu Hyuk successfully escaped from North Korea.

After a long journey, he finally arrived in South Korea. He crossed through various countries but kept his travel path a secret. Yu Hyuk feared that sharing too much could put others escaping North Korea at risk.

Seok’s Journey

Now, let’s talk about another North Korean member in the multinational group. 24-year-old Kim Seok also fled North Korea and reached South Korea in 2019. His story was quite different from Hyuk’s. Kim Seok grew up in a wealthy family and lived near the China border. Hence, he was able to access K-pop culture.
