Emmy Awards 2024: From Shogun Winning 18 Awards To Anna Sawai Bagging Lead Actress Award, All Historical Wins At Emmys!

On September 16, the 76th Emmy Awards 2024 took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. From the historical drama series Shogun winning the Outstanding Drama Series Award to The Bear breaking the record for the most comedy wins in a single year in EMMY Awards history, it was a historic night! Historic Wins At 76th EMMY Awards

The glamorous evening in Los Angeles witnessed a historic triumph as Shōgun and The Bear emerged as the standout winners. The incredible Anna Sawai made history as she became the first Japanese actress to win an Emmy for the FX’s historical epic, Shōgun. She won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.  Along with Anna Sawai, Hiroyuki Sanada achieved a historic feat too. He became the first Japanese actor to win an Emmy. Well, the list doesn’t end here for Shōgun, it became the first non-English-language winner in the category of Best Drama Series and Frederick E.O. Toye won the Best Directing award for it. Liza Colón-Zayas achieved a historic feat with The Bear. She became the first Latina to win the Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Laverne Cox and Nava Mau teared up and shared a hug as they made trans history at the Emmys. In 2014, Laverne Cox became the first trans person to receive an Emmy nomination for acting in the Netflix show Orange is the New Black. Meanwhile, Nava Mau became the first trans woman to receive a nomination in the category of best supporting actress for Baby Reindeer. Additionally, in total, Shōgun received 25 nominations for the Emmy Awards and won 18 awards in one season. The Bear also made history as they set a new record for the most number of wins in a single season for a comedy series with 11 awards.
