Tech mogul Elon Musk recently did a podcast with Indian entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath. In the interview, Musk opened up about how one of his son’s middle names is inspired by the Indian-American astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. The Tesla founder also opened up about his partner, Shivon Zilis’ Indian heritage, in Kamath’s People by WTF podcast. Read on to know more about Musk’s family.
Elon Musk On His Son’s Middle Name And Partner’s Indian Heritage
While speaking on Nikhil Kamath’s People by WTF podcast, Elon Musk opened up about the intention behind his son’s middle name and also his partner Shivon Zill’s Indian Heritage. Elon told Kamath that Shivon is half Indian. He also added that his son’s middle name, “Sekhar,” is in honour of Nobel Prize-winning Indian-American astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.
Musk revealed that Shivon Zilis grew up in Canada after she was given up for adoption as a baby. Elon said that he is not sure about the details, but Shivon’s adoptive father was an exchange student at a university. The Tesla founder, however, did not reveal anything about his partner’s biological family, stressing he does not know the exact details.
About Shivon Zilis?
Elon Musk’s partner Zilis is a Canadian venture capitalist and tech executive. She joined Neuralink in 2017 and is currently the company’s director of operations and special projects. Shivon has also worked at IBM and Bloomberg on internal ventures and start-up partnerships before moving into venture capital at Bloomberg Beta. In 2016, she joined OpenAI, where Zilis became the youngest member on the company’s board of directors before stepping down in 2023.
Talking about their son’s name, Shivon had once stated that the name was chosen to honour their children’s heritage and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.

The couple welcomed their twins, Strider and Azure, in 2021. They also have a daughter who was born in February 2024, and Zilis has also confirmed the arrival of a fourth child, Seldon Lycurgus.
