As someone who wanted to pursue a career in medicine, I can very confidently say that I nearly became one after watching Grey’s Anatomy! Well, the keyword here being ‘almost’. Apart from the basic knowledge about how things operate in a hospital even though it was all fictional, I got a little too attached to the show for my own good. With my favourite characters dying left, right and centre, and my favourite couples parting ways, I was left utterly heartbroken. And now there is a void in my dramatic heart as the titular character of the show, Meredith Grey, AKA Ellen Pompeo, has also bid adieu to Grey’s Anatomy. In remembrance of Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, here are some iconic moments of her that made us fans love her even more!
Meredith cracks her first neuro case (season 1, episode 1)
The first-ever neuro case that Meredith and Cristina got to handle with Drerk Shepheard had them both competing to scrub in for the surgery. But it was Meredith who cracks the case and gets to watch her first brain surgery. I was immensely proud of her then and she was portrayed to be more than her looks!
Meredith’s ‘pick me’, ‘choose me’ ‘love me’ (season 2, episode 5)
While Derek is still in a dilemma about whether to get back with his wife Addison or to divorce her and get serious with Meredith, the latter decides it is the right time to confess her feelings to him. She asks him to ‘pick’ her, ‘choose’ her and ‘love’ her.
Meredith gets her hand stuck in a body with a bomb (season 2, episode 17)
By this time, it is proven that Meredith is the girl who will make the world’s weirdest and dangerous choices! She ends up keeping her hand on a bomb that is inside a patient’s body. She has to make sure that the bomb does not explode and the patient does not die. Kaafi brave, Mer!
She builds Derek a house of candles to show she is all in! (season 4, episode 17)
Meredith decides to throw her indecisiveness out of the window and go ahead to take her relationship with Derek to the next level. She makes him a house with candles to show him that she is on the same page as him! This is truly one of the most romantic scenes in the series.
Meredith and Derek’s post-it wedding! (season 5, episode 24)
Given their busy schedule, Meredith and Derek are unable to find time to get married. So, he writes down their wedding vows on Post-It sticker, and sign them while they are at the hospital. A sweet, short and simple wedding without any drama made me love this moment even more!
