From Rhea Chakraborty to Deepika Padukone to Sanya Malhotra to Aditya Roy Kapur, we’ve come across several celebs who have been mobbed by fans and paparazzi. But what’s shocking is that many celebs have been opening up and speaking up about being touched inappropriately by their fans. As if a fan asking Aditya Roy Kapur for “ek kiss” wasn’t bad enough, now leading South actor Dulquer Salmaan has opened up about being groped by a female fan and it has left us reeling in shock.

In a recent conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, Dulquer Salmaan recalled an incident involving a female fan. The King of Kotha actor shared that he has had his fair share of uncomfortable experiences where some slightly older women gave him a peck on the cheek without his consent while clicking pictures. But what’s even more shocking is that the actor recalled an incident where an older woman, a female fan grabbed his butt. Dulquer Salmaan shared that it was awkward and bizarre and in fact, he was in pain and didn’t know what to do. He went on to add that he doesn’t think that it was “that kind of grab” but he doesn’t know what it meant.

By now, we’re all accustomed to celebs being mobbed by paparazzi and fans (and so are celebs, not that we should be okay with it) but it looks like people have taken things up a notch by consciously choosing to cross boundaries and make celebs uncomfortable. In fact, many have taken it as far as molesting and sexually harassing celebs. Shame on people who call themselves fans of these celebs and then go on to invade their personal space and violate their bodies and their bodily autonomy. If that’s what fandom is, shame on such fans. It’s shocking that people think that this behaviour is okay. Just because celebrities are public figures does not mean that we have the right to violate them, they’re not public property! What will it take for people to respect boundaries and not violate someone else’s body, be it a man, woman or celebrity?
