LA Doctor Pleads Guilty For Supplying Ketamine To Matthew Perry Before Death By Overdose

A California-based physician accused of illegally supplying ketamine to actor Matthew Perry before his death has pleaded guilty to four federal drug charges. Dr. Salvador Plasencia, 43, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday and admitted to distributing the powerful anaesthetic without a valid medical reason. The charges, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years, relate to his role in providing ketamine to Perry just weeks before the actor’s fatal overdose in October 2023.

According to court documents, Plasencia administered ketamine to Perry despite knowing the potential risks and later left more of the drug with the actor’s assistant. Reports also reveal Perry experienced side effects including fainting and high blood pressure, immediately after receiving the injection, but Plasencia continued to provide the substance.

The plea deal, reached last month, spares Plasencia from additional charges, including falsifying medical records and further distribution counts. As part of the agreement, he is required to give up his medical license within 30 to 45 days and cooperate with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

Although Plasencia initially pleaded not guilty, he later agreed to the plea bargain, admitting his wrongdoing in front of Judge Sherrilyn Peace Garnett. When asked if he fully understood the consequences of his plea, Plasencia quietly confirmed that he and his legal team had considered all outcomes.

Plasencia is one of five individuals charged in connection with Perry’s death. He is the fourth to plead guilty. Authorities have emphasised that Plasencia did not directly provide the lethal dose that led to Perry’s passing, but his involvement was part of a wider illegal distribution network.

Another defendant in the case, Jasveen Sangha, referred to by investigators as the Ketamine Queen, is scheduled to stand trial next month. She allegedly operated a ketamine distribution hub in North Hollywood. Dr. Plasencia remains free on bail and will face sentencing on December 3. Outside court, he declined to speak to reporters.
