Do Deewane Seher Mein Review: Mrunal Thakur, Siddhanth Chaturvedi’s Film Fails To Move Or Matter!
hauterrfly Rating: 1.5 / 5

Its been long since I have watched a good romantic movie. And honestly, there are primarily two things that it can provide us, either an escape or hard-core relate. Do Deewane Seher Mein starring Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi fails to check either of the boxes. The film absolutely refuses to break the stereotypical template of a romantic film which has a love story with a message but no impact! The Ravi Udyawar film attempts to highlight important issues faced by adults but does it with no sincerity whatsoever. Read our review.

Plot

The film revolves around Shashank and Roshni, two independent adults living and working in Mumbai. Shashank’s insecurity is his speech impediment. He pronounces “Sh” as “S” which makes a less confident at work and when meeting girls. He avoids giving presentations and addressing a crowd. Roshni deals with body image issues. Both of them meet through an arranged marriage setup. They have a lot of pressure to get married, and due to various circumstances, the two fall in love. But it’s not an easy ride. There are several hurdles in the love story and how tackles the insecurities along with the societal pressures make for the basic premise of the film.

Relatability Factor Missing!

The way Do Deewane Seher Mein views the concept of arranged marriage itself feels unrealistic. Two individuals meet for the first time, have a sweet conversation but for some reason Roshni refuses to marry Shashank. And a NO should’ve been enough, right? But the plot develops with Shashank refusing to take a no. He starts waiting for Roshni everyday, outside her officer till she decides to confront him. Umm? I think in this exact moment I lost interest in the film. But we move on! Shashank and Roshni’s relationship issues are solved because of external elements and not because they addressed them as mature adults. Roshni either realises Shashank’s importance in her life because of her sister’s broken marriage or the duo agrees to marriage because Roshni’s little brother clicks of picture of them hugging after breaking up? Yes, doesn’t add up, right? Same! It only gets bizarre. And while it’s very much understandable that adults have insecurities which are important to address in a relationship, but the film fails to make it look or sound serious. Also, as an independent woman living in Mumbai, I will not judge or demean myself based on the insecurities, and every time Roshni does that, it feels annoying. Do we always need a “green flag” man to help us overcome our insecurities. This a stereotype that needs to break now!

Screenplay, Songs, Characters

All the cliches elements are present in the film like- the guy’s best friend who gives him bad advises, an annoying self-imposing mother, a supportive father, a chill grandmother, the man’s father who is a flagbearer of patriarchy, and these characters are present to add any kind of substance to the narrative. The screenplay of Do Deewane Seher Mein is so weak that neither the chemistry comes out well nor the conflicts. The story is dragged, same issues are addressed several times in different ways and only gets tiring. The songs also don’t any feel-good factor in the film.

Siddhanth Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur are decent as performers, but the problem lies in the character building and story. A very shallow understanding of both the characters from a writing POV doesn’t let the performances come across efficiently.

Verdict

Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi starrer Do Deewane Seher Mein has nothing fresh to offer despite two talented lead stars and a scope to address important issues faced by adults. It reduces to become other romantic drama with a linear and unimaginative form of storytelling. The film is currently running in theatres.
