Recently, many videos of K-pop idols saying the N-word have been spreading online. Amid this criticism, Jackson Wang of GOT7 has faced accusations of using a racial slur in new content. Jackson recently appeared on DIVE Studios’ Daebak Show with Eric Nam, Ashley Choi, and BTOB’s Peniel. During a game segment, after Jackson gave a wrong answer, he playfully threw a notebook and walked away.
A post that gained attention claimed that DIVE Studios edited the YouTube version of the clip but not the one on Weibo. This original post alleged that the Weibo version contained Jackson saying the N-word. Given the recent criticism many idols have faced regarding cultural appropriation, this accusation against Jackson led to a wave of negative reactions.
Some fans expressed their disappointment and criticised his alleged use of the slur. They felt it was unacceptable and harmful, especially considering the history and offensive nature of the word.
However, other fans came to Jackson’s defence. Some argued that there was no clear evidence in the clip to confirm he actually said the N-word. They pointed out that the audio was unclear or that the accusations were based on speculation rather than concrete proof. These fans urged others to be cautious about making assumptions and to wait for more definitive information before passing judgement.
Amid criticism, DIVE Studios released an official statement addressing these allegations. They wrote, “We do not take this situation lightly and want to provide clear context: 1. In the original, unedited clip, Jackson says, “Brother.” A separate, edited version is being shared that is inaccurate and misleading.”
