Recently, R. Tee’s music video for Damdadi, which features i-dle’s Soyeon, faced backlash for copying ideas from French artist Yseult’s work. The video director, Hong Minho, shared a public note about the claims. He admitted that Yseult’s style influenced him a lot. As someone from Achilles Film, the director said he has always respected her and the filmmakers she teams up with.

Still, he felt bad that some parts looked too much like her original video. He apologised for causing any hurt to her and her group. The director took full blame for the ideas and direction and added that Soyeon and R. Tee only handled the musical side. They did not know about the visual plans or sources ahead of time. In the future, Hong Minho plans to study more carefully and honour those who inspire him.
However, many felt his apology was weak. Some people stated that getting inspired is fine, but copying shots without any changes is infuriating.
When Did It Begin?
It all started when Yseult posted on X about the video. She said she watched Damdadi and saw it as a direct copy from her own clip called Bitch You Could Never. She urged the director, label, and singers to at least name their source. Yseult praised her two directors, Marita and Shadrinsky, for putting heart into their timeless piece. She called the plagiarism shocking but said true art stands out from others.

Yseult thanked them for the great work and sent love. She also hit back at people trying to quiet her. Yseult refused to stay silent, especially as a Black woman whose ideas get taken without credit. Many fans stood behind her. They have been continuously speaking up on social media platforms.
