Did You Know TV Show Anupamaa Was First Offered To Mona Singh And Not Rupali Ganguly? Here’s What Happened

Rupali Ganguly made a mark on television with the hit show Anupamaa. Her acting and nostalgia have made the show a household name. And now, another veteran actor, Mona Singh, has opened up about getting approached for the show a few years back during a recent chat. She is currently gaining the success of Aryan Khan’s show The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Read to know more about it here.

Mona Singh On Anupamaa

During a chat with HT City, Mona Singh said, “I was approached for (TV show) Anupamaa years ago. But by then, I had decided that I didn’t want to continue doing TV. Hence, I denied the show.” She said that she consciously decided to focus on OTT projects by opting for character-driven roles, adding that she doesn’t take up projects just ‘to be seen.’ The actress said that she never wants to regret her decision.

The lead role ultimately went to Rupali Ganguly, who has now carried the character for over five years. The actor feels genuinely pleased for both Rupali and producer Rajan Shahi, believing the part was always destined for her and that she has truly made it her own. However, choosing roles with such selectiveness isn’t always simple. It often requires patience and waiting for the right opportunity, but the actor feels no regret about being particular in her choices.

As the industry continues to shift, Mona notes that social media has begun to play a significant role in casting, with many cases where influencers with massive followings are chosen to boost viewership. Her recent project, Thode Door Thode Paas, deals with the excessive use of digital media and the need for a detox from it. She adds that she’s grateful to still be valued for her craft rather than her follower count.
