Travis Kelce’s marriage proposal to Taylor Swift is winning hearts already, but it gets even more so because of the way he managed things behind the scenes. When he proposed to the pop superstar, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end first asked for her father’s permission. Ed Kelce, Travis’ father, recently spoke openly in an interview on The Jimmy & Nath Show with Emma and revealed Travis had spoken to Scott Swift, Taylor’s dad, weeks prior to the big day. As per Ed, Scott did not think twice before giving his blessing and even joked with Travis to get it over and done with.

Ed conceded that he too had been egging on his son to go for it. He said that Travis was thinking of a grander, more dramatic proposal, but the two dads concurred that it didn’t have to be complicated. “The moment itself is what counts,” said Ed, remembering how he informed Travis that even the most ordinary environment would make it special.

Rather than a fancy setup, Travis opted for the garden at his house. On what appeared to be an ordinary night, he asked Taylor if they could have a glass of wine outside before going to dinner. That’s when she realised that the garden seemed different; it was full of new flowers, and she knew something special was going to occur.

Ed also reported that he had already viewed the engagement ring weeks prior. The piece, created by New York jeweller Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewellery, includes a cushion-cut diamond weighing over eight carats, mounted in handmade yellow gold. Looking back on his son’s grand step, Ed declared he has “never seen him so happy” and both families had a sense that marriage was imminent. The engagement, he said, is the natural next chapter for two people who are obviously head over heels in love.
