In his public birthday message to Roy, he shared memories that rekindled interest in the love triangle that made headlines decades ago.
About Shatrughan Sinha, Poonam Sinha, And Reena Roy
Long before his rise in the Bollywood film industry, Shatrughan Sinha met his now wife, Poonam Sinha, during a two-day train journey from Patna to Bombay in 1965. Back then, he was unaware of the fact that this would eventually blossom into a relationship and lead to marriage. But his journey wasn’t straightforward. As he became a rising star, he also formed a deep connection with co-star Reena Roy, whose on-screen chemistry with him translated into a real-life romance that drew massive attention.
But what makes this particular romance in Bollywood intriguing is that Shatrughan Sinha’s relationship with Reena Roy continued even as his bond with Poonam was nurturing. In fact, just two days before his wedding to her, the actor was in London with Roy for a stage show, and it was Reena who drove him to the airport so he could fly back for his wedding in Mumbai. Even at that time, he admitted in his memoir ‘Anything But Khamosh’ that he struggled with mixed emotions. He said that ’till the last moment’ he contemplated whether to follow through with this marriage.
After his marriage to Poonam, Sinha did not cut ties with Reena Roy immediately, which later led to gossip and public intrigue. The emotional complexity of juggling relationships took its toll on all involved, and Reena eventually moved on and married cricketer Mohsin Khan before later returning to India after their divorce.
