Did You Know Ratan Tata’s ONLY Failed Venture Was A Bollywood Film Starring Amitabh Bachchan?

Ratan Tata and the Tata Group were active in a variety of fields in India. His conglomerate operated in industries ranging from aviation and steel to food. However, for the longest time, Tata ignored the one love that Indians have: movies. It took a film starring Amitabh Bachchan to change that. Ratan Tata did enter Bollywood, however briefly. Unfortunately, unlike his previous endeavours, this one did not succeed.

Ratan Tata Produced An Amitabh Bachchan Film

Ratan Tata entered the film industry as a financier in 2004. He was a co-producer on Vikram Bhatt’s romantic thriller Aetbaar, starring Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham, and Bipasha Basu. The film, an adaption of the 1996 Hollywood thriller Fear, was produced by Tata BSS. The video delves into obsession and familial ties, revealing the darker side of love fixation.

However, despite a great cast and a lot of buzz surrounding its debut, Aetbaar failed to perform well at the box office. Aetbaar, with a budget of ₹9.5 crore, failed to make more than ₹5 crore in its first week of release. Tata had to bear some of the losses due to its limited global earnings of only ₹8 crore over a lifetime.

Aetbaar also failed to impress critics, with many condemning the picture for its trite speech and overdone themes. The film attempted to capitalize on the chemistry between John Abraham and Bipasha Basu, who had previously featured in Jism, but failed as well. This was to be Ratan Tata’s sole picture as a producer.
