Did You Know Aashiqui 2 Songs Were First Recorded By KK And NOT Arijit Singh?

Over a decade has passed since Aashiqui 2 became a musical phenomenon, but few know that Arijit Singh, whose haunting vocals defined the film, wasn’t the first choice for its iconic soundtrack. In fact, the late singer KK was initially brought in to lend his voice to the songs that would go on to become massive hits.

KK Originally Sung For Aashiqui 2 And Not Arijit Singh

Director Mohit Suri recently revealed that he had recorded several tracks of Aashiqui 2 with KK, whom he had worked with on earlier hits like Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai. Suri felt KK’s voice was ideal for the role of Rahul Jaykar, played by Aditya Roy Kapur. However, once the recordings were complete, Suri had second thoughts. “I realised KK’s voice, while phenomenal, suited the previous generation actors like Emraan Hashmi. With Aditya, I needed a fresh voice that would feel emotionally raw and new,” he explained in an interview with Hindustan Times.

Moreover, he kept pushing to find a voice that felt more in sync with the youthful tone of the film, and Mohit Suri auditioned numerous singers. It was during this search that he stumbled upon a voice that stopped him in his tracks, Arijit Singh. He revealed that he went crazy trying to find Arijit as he didn’t even know who Arijit was back then. But as soon as he heard his voice, he knew it had to be him.

The gamble paid off as we all know, as songs like Tum Hi Ho, Chahun Main Ya Na, and Milne Hai Mujhse Aayi became chartbusters and catapulted Arijit into stardom. KK, however, wasn’t completely left out; his rendition of Piya Aaye Na was included in the album and was also well received.

On the workfront, Mohit Suri is currently busy with his latest release, Saiyaara starring Aneet Padda and Ahan Pandey.
