Hina Khan is making a powerful comeback with Griha Laxmi, her first project since undergoing cancer treatment. The show, which premieres on January 16 on Epic On, showcases her in a gritty, action-packed avatar as Laxmi, a woman who transitions from a humble homemaker to a reluctant gangster. During a recent interview, Hina Khan opened up about how she did not know she had cancer while shooting for the show.
Hina Khan On Shooting Griha Laxmi While Suffering From Cancer
Hina filmed the series last year in Uttarakhand, unaware of her cancer diagnosis. It wasn’t until she returned to Mumbai that she learned about her illness. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted that not knowing about her condition at the time may have been a blessing. It allowed her to give her all to the physically demanding role without the mental and emotional weight of a diagnosis. However, the treatment afterward took a toll on her energy and spirit.
Griha Laxmi delves into themes of power, morality, and survival. Hina drew from her personal experiences to bring depth to Laxmi’s character, especially her struggles with adversity. The transformation of Laxmi from a hesitant participant in criminal activities to someone accustomed to power resonates with Hina’s own journey of overcoming hardships. While comparisons to iconic shows like Breaking Bad might arise, Hina believes her character’s journey is distinct, rooted in reluctance rather than ambition.
The actor also discussed the stark difference between working in television and the streaming world. Having spent years in daily soaps, she noted how the subtle, nuanced performances required for OTT platforms are a refreshing change from the dramatic, larger-than-life style often demanded by television. Looking ahead, Hina is optimistic about 2025 after a challenging 2024. With Griha Laxmi marking a fresh start, she hopes to focus on her health and career growth.
