Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, two of Bollywood’s most beloved stars, exchanged vows on April 14, 2022. Their intimate ceremony took place on the terrace of their Mumbai home, a choice that surprised many given the grand destination wedding plans the couple had entertained for two years. This revelation came to light through a widely shared video clip of Ranbir’s mother, veteran actress Neetu Kapoor, who spilt the details about their initial wedding aspirations.
What Neetu Kapoor Said About Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor Wedding?
Neetu Kapoor revealed that the couple had originally envisioned a grand wedding in South Africa. They had spent two years planning, discussing, and browsing photos of potential venues. Despite these elaborate plans, they eventually decided to marry at their home in Mumbai, a decision that marked a significant shift from their initial dreams of a destination wedding. Despite the significant change in plans, Neetu Kapoor later expressed in an interview with Film Companion that the wedding exceeded all expectations. The baraat, traditionally a groom’s procession, made its way from the fifth floor to the seventh floor of their Mumbai building, with Ranbir’s family dancing joyously in the passage. The smaller scale did not diminish the festivity and joy of the occasion.

Alia Bhatt, in an interview with Mid Day, also shed light on her preference for a simpler wedding. She mentioned that grand displays were not her style and that she found the idea of organizing a destination wedding quite stressful. She preferred the convenience and familiarity of getting ready in her usual makeup room and then heading to the terrace for the ceremony. This preference for a low-key celebration was reflected in the intimate nature of their wedding, which was attended by only 40 close friends and family members.
Alia also appreciated the opportunity to interact closely with all the guests, emphasizing that both she and Ranbir are not inclined towards large, extravagant celebrations. Their decision to prioritize comfort and intimacy over grandeur resonated deeply with their personalities and their close-knit approach to life.
Their wedding day was described as perfect, blending simplicity with heartfelt celebrations. The couple’s story took another joyful turn in November 2022 when they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raha. The choice to have a private wedding at home, in retrospect, seems a fitting prelude to the grounded and loving family life they have embarked upon.
