During a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, author Chetan Bhagat revealed that filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj had initially considered adapting his book 2 States into a film. He said, “There was a time Vishal Bharadwaj was going to make it. There was a time when Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Priyanka Chopra’s names were talked about.” But when the news came out about there being a new director with two new faces, like Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, who only had one film out, he was sceptical.
Bhagat admitted that because of the young and fresh casting, the film became a hit, and if the older actors had been cast, he couldn’t assume what would have happened. But the film is becoming a cult with new faces was a surprise for all of them. The film also features Ronit Roy, Amrita Singh, and Revathy. Abhishek Varman directed the 2014 film, which is based on Chetan Bhagat’s best-selling book. The film is about two states, separate cultures and families, and a single love tale. The film was lauded by celebrities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhudheva, Riteish Deshmukh, and Sonakshi Sinha, and the film did well at the box office.
