Hugh Jackman, Deborra-Lee Furness Finalise Divorce
Deborra-Lee Furness sought a divorce in New York on May 23, nearly two years after the couple had publicly declared their breakup. Sources close to the couple revealed that the divorce is not contested and now only needs the nod of a judge. Insiders claimed that Deborra is pleased with the settlement terms, which allegedly include a generous spousal support package. The process has been termed as smooth, without any significant controversies or shocks, providing her with the much-needed closure.
Among the most significant assets is the pair’s gorgeous three-story Chelsea apartment in New York City, which Jackman gets to retain. The house, which was bought in 2008 for USD 21 million, was formerly on the market for close to USD 39 million and is now said to be where Jackman shares his home with Broadway performer Sutton Foster.
Apart from the NYC property, Jackman will also get to keep their peaceful weekend retreat house on Bondi Beach in Australia. Deborra-Lee, on the other hand, will get a major part of the rest of the real estate and monetary assets, although not much details are made public yet. What complicated the process at first was that there was no prenuptial agreement signed by the couple. As revealed by an insider close to the actor, the lateness of the filing stemmed from the couple’s initial thought that they would be married forever, thus they never signed a prenup.
