Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali raised some eyebrows after he remarked about Deepika Padukone’s casting in his film, Cocktail. After this, he shared a public apology on his Instagram story and re-shared a video of his statement explaining that his comments were made in a light-hearted manner and that he did not mean to upset her. Imtiaz Ali About Deepika Padukone
On Tuesday, May 25, Imtiaz Ali took to his Instagram and shared a video of his interview with News18. During the chat, he explained why he thought Deepika Padukone was perfect for Veronica’s role in Cocktail. In his explanation, Imtiaz wrote that it was “impossible” for him to be mean to the actor and never imagine he would have to write such an explanation for her. He called Padukone hos “buddy” and said she would never misunderstand him since she knew how much he loved her. The filmmaker stated that he had been “told” that the actor might misunderstand her and thus shared a disclaimer.
For the unversed, it all began after Ali, in a chat, explained why Deepika Padukone was a good fit for Veronica in Cocktail, which eventually became one of her most memorable roles. The filmmaker said that though she had been asked to read for Meera’s role, which was later played by Dana Penty, he felt she was better as Veronica. He explained that the character’s image was different from Padukone’s public image at that time since she was perceived as a “good girl.” He said that after interacting with her in social gatherings, he believed she had a fun and spontaneous side that the audience had not seen on-screen.
