Deepika Padukone Criticises Oscar Snubs; Highlights India’s Lost Wins

While many Indian artists have been a part of the prestige Oscars, very rarely do we get to see one of ours win the nominations. After many voiced their opinions on the Internet, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has also come forward and admitted her frustration over repeated snubs at the Academy Awards. She stated that the country has been robbed of many wins multiple times at the award ceremony.

Deepika Padukone On India’s Win At The Oscars

On Sunday, March 24, Deepika Padukone uploaded a video of her getting ready in Paris for the Louis Vuitton show. During this, she reminisced about the iconic win of India at the Oscars for the song ‘Natu Natu’ from RRR at the ceremony. She also revealed that one of the true moments of this year’s Oscars was Adrian Brody winning the Best Actor for The Brutalist.

Talking about India’s win at the Oscars, Padukone said, “India has been robbed of the Oscars many times. Many, many deserving movies I feel have been snubbed. Whether its movies, whether its talent…” She revealed how she felt emotional at the win of ‘Natu Natu’ even though she had no relation to the film except for being an Indian. Deepika said it felt like a personal win to her.

SS Rajamouli’s RRR won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2023 for the song ‘Natu Natu’ featuring Jr NTR and Ram Charan.

Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox, Rahi Anil Barve’s Tumbbad, Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, and Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light were among the highly regarded Indian films that were teased in Deepika’s video. Despite their immense acclaim, none of these movies were nominated for an Oscar.
