For decades, comedy films in Hindi cinema have often degraded women under the pretext of “harmless jokes.” However, recent times have brought in changes, which include restrictions one has to keep in mind while working on such films. Talking about the same, Varun Dhawan’s father and celebrated filmmaker David Dhawan recently spoke about the same, stating that these restrictions do not allow women to be degraded in the storylines. Know what he stated exactly below.

David Dhawan On Comedy Film Restrictions

During the launch of the David Dhawan Film Festival, the filmmaker reportedly sat down with his son and actor Varun Dhawan and revealed how comedy films are faced with alot of scrutiny today. David Dhawan stated that “you can’t degrade a woman” in movies today, adding that if one does, the censor board will give a list of papers about the matter. Here’s What We Think

The way women have been continuously degraded in films kind of pushed the narrative that it was okay to humiliate a woman under the pretext of jokes. If one raised their voice against it, they were simply called out for not being able to take a “joke.” Although in recent times restrictions have been placed, many filmmakers still forget to comprehend them. Even in recent times, films like Housefull 4 and more continue to follow the same script where women are just subjects to their jokes and are literally treated like objects in the storyline.

As far as David Dhawan’s professional front goes, he is back with another project, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Ha, starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde. The film, which is slated to release on June 5, will reportedly be his last directorial venture.
