Exclusive: Saqib Saleem: “Media Expects Actors To Be Kings Of General Knowledge, We Don’t Have Answers To Everything”

Actors often find themselves answering questions about politics and government policies, even though their expertise lies in the world of entertainment. While some actors may be passionate about these issues, their primary job is to tell stories and bring characters to life. Talking about the same was Crime Beat actor Saqib Saleem in an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly. Read on to know!

Saqib Saleem Questions Media’s Focus On Actors’ Political Views

The Crime Beat actor stated, “I think the media assumes that we (actors) are kings of general knowledge and that we should have opinions on everything. I am an actor, correct? Talk to me about my show; talk to me about my films. But I don’t make policies in the country, nor do I know what happened in some state. I have no clue. I get news from you (the media), and I am also unsure of what news is true and what is not true. So, I’m like, Ask me about my show, and I’ll be able to give you the best answer because I had this under control; I went to shoot every day, and I know the people I worked with.”

Further, he added, “But I don’t know what news to believe and then to have an opinion on that news. I am not supposed to be the smartest guy in the world. I don’t have to have answers to everything in the world. So, I think this pressure should be removed from actors that they should know everything. Actors should know about their work. Those who are making policies, ask them about the policies. You don’t go and ask them about acting. You don’t say to them, ‘Sir, what a speech you gave, what acting you did!’ You are asking us (actors) what they (policymakers) should do. How would we know? Otherwise, we would have become policymakers ourselves.” On the work front, Saqib Saleem will be seen with Saba Azad in Crime Beat, and it will premiere on Zee5.
