Cosmetic Brand Takes Kim Soo Hyun To Court Over Reputational Damage
The first hearing for the lawsuit was held today.
Kim Soo Hyun has been embroiled in multiple controversies for some time now. The actor first came under hot water when he was linked to the late actress Kim Sae Ron after her passing. The first hearing for the damages lawsuit filed against the actor by a cosmetic brand was held today. Kim Soo Hyun was working as a model for the brand. Read on to know more.
Kim Soo Hyun Taken To Court By Cosmetic Brand ‘A’ Over Damages Lawsuit
On November 21st, the 22nd Civil Division B of the Seoul Central District Court held the first hearing in a damages lawsuit filed by a cosmetics company against actor Kim Soo Hyun and his agency, Gold Medalist. The lawsuit filed is for the amount of 500 million KRW (31,043,725 rupees).
During the hearing, the cosmetic brand, referred to as A, pointed out a clause that states facts can be seen as causing social controversy even if unconfirmed ones are not interpreted as doing so.
To this, the It’s Okay Not To Be Okay actor’s side questioned their statement by saying that there are no confirmed facts in the situation. His lawyers also emphasised that there is no breach of social dignity obligations, hence the brand’s contract with Kim Soo Hyun cannot be terminated.
Till March this year, Kim was endorsing over 10 brands; however, following his allegations, many brands which had signed the actor dropped him, claiming reputational damage. Later, in April, it was reported that some brands had filed lawsuits against him demanding his company return his charged salary and compensate for the damages. The trial for Company A’s lawsuit against Soo Hyun has commenced after 7 months.

Aside from this lawsuit, Kim Soo Hyun is also currently embroiled in a legal dispute with the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute and Kim Sae Ron’s family over allegations that he was dating the late actress when she was a minor. In March, the actor also held a press conference in which he denied allegations of dating Kim Sae Ron when she was underage.

The actor, in turn, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Kim Sae Ron’s family and Garo Sero Institute for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilisation and Information Protection (defamation).
