The Film Federation of India, the highest authority tasked with choosing India’s official submission for the Best Foreign Film category of the 97th Academy Awards, revealed director Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies as the country’s official entry at a function held in Chennai. The film was produced by Aamir Khan starring Pratibha Ratna, Sparsh Srivastava and Nitanshi Goel. This is such a proud moment for the makers as well as the country. The film garnered so much love and for all the right reasons!

Jude Anthany Joseph’s film 2018, which was entered last year, was not included in the 96th Academy Awards shortlist. But in the 95th edition, India fared better when SS Rajamouli’s RRR‘s ‘Naatu Naatu’ song took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The Elephant Whisperers, a documentary by Kartiki Gonzalves and Guneet Monga, took first place in the Best Documentary (Short) category. We also had All That Breathes by Shaunak Sen reach the final rankings for Best Documentary Feature.
