Ahmedabad Child Protection Unit Warns Coldplay Over Concert Safety For Children. Abhi Toh Kuch Hua Bhi Nhi!

Coldplay’s highly anticipated Ahmedabad concert has taken an unexpected turn as the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) issued a legal notice to the band and its organizers. The notice, centered on child safety concerns, outlines strict directives for the performances scheduled at the Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25 and 26, 2025.

Coldplay Concert Receives Notice In Ahmedabad

The DCPU has emphasized that children must not be featured on stage during the event in any capacity. Furthermore, organizers have been instructed to enforce safety measures for young attendees, including mandatory ear protection. The notice warns that the concert’s sound levels, expected to exceed 120 decibels, could pose significant risks to children’s health, potentially leading to long-term hearing damage.

The legal action comes in response to a complaint lodged by Pandit Rao Dharnevar, a sociology professor from Chandigarh, who raised concerns about the physical and mental impact of high-decibel concerts on children. He urged authorities to prevent such events from involving minors and to ensure compliance with child protection standards. Failure to adhere to these directives could result in stringent penalties from the DCPU. The Unit’s proactive approach underscores the importance of safeguarding children’s rights and well-being during large-scale events that attract audiences across age groups.

This is not the first time Dharnevar has intervened in high-profile concerts. Previously, he filed a complaint against Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh’s New Year’s Eve performance in Ludhiana. His efforts led to a notice from the Women and Child Department of Punjab, which restricted the singer from performing songs accused of promoting alcohol. As Coldplay prepares for its Ahmedabad leg of the world tour, its management and event organizers have yet to publicly respond to the legal notice. Fans are hopeful the matter will not disrupt the concert, which promises to draw massive crowds.

This is not the first time a concert has got a legal notice, previously Diljit Dosanjh’s Chandigarh concert was also about to receive a 15 lakh fine over the same noise issue.
