In her post, Chum also addressed people from the North-East and others who have faced racism, urging them to raise their voices against such discrimination. She stated that everyone deserves respect, dignity, and equality, calling for a society where kindness and empathy take precedence over hate. Using hashtags like #NoRoomForRacism and #NotOkayWithRacism, she made it clear that such behavior should not be normalized.

The controversy began when a clip from Elvish Yadav’s podcast with Rajat Dalal surfaced online. In the viral snippet, Elvish made derogatory remarks about Chum Darang, questioning her name and even making an inappropriate comment about her performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi. His statement, which also targeted her identity, was widely criticized for being both racist and vulgar.
