Many comedy films were released this year, but nothing is worth remembering. One of them was Housefull 5, which got a lot of backlash for the objectification of the female characters. Now, Chitrangda Singh, an actor who played a pivotal role in the film, has addressed this criticism and has opined that everyone was a little ‘over-judgmental’ of the film. She also gave the example of Dhurandhar to clarify the context.
What Did Chitrangda Singh Say?
Chitrangda Singh spoke at length about the criticisms that Housefull 5 received. One of them was the portrayal of female characters in the film. In a conversation with News 18 Showsha, Chitrangda said that she had thought about the criticisms and that such things do not strike when one reads the script. The visual aspects and how a shot needs to be visualised are entirely on the director’s decision. However, the actor did not try to justify it and opined that Housefull 5 was a comedy film, and it has physical comedy involving women, then it can get uncomfortable. She added that some of them land and others don’t. She also gave examples of Eddie Murphy films and Jim Carry films.
During the interview, she also spoke about Dhurandhar and how violence was a part of the storytelling. She added physical comedy is a part of storytelling too and it’s on the director how he wants to put it. However, the actor firmly believed that it’s on the audience to decide whether they want to watch that content or now. She also added that some scenes could have been done in a better way. Chitrangda however felt that sometimes people do get ‘over-judgemental.’
