Stalker fans, also known as Sasaeng fans, are really common in idol culture. These so-called fans follow their favourite celebrities everywhere, stalk their private schedules and invade boundaries. The airport and other public places are one of the places where idols become the most vulnerable to sasaeng interactions. Recently, Chinese actor-singer Ling Chao, also known as DIDI, went viral on social media after he confronted a sasaeng. Read on to know more.
Chinese Idol Ling Chao Physically Confronts Sasaeng Fan
In multiple viral social media clips, recorded by bystanders and paparazzi, Ling Chao is seen appearing agitated as he tries to make his way forward. A fan was walking very close to him and pointing her camera at his face. This seemed to irritate the idol, as after moments of patience, he is seen retaliating.
Ling Chao knocked her phone out of her hand and grabbed the fan by her hoodie, causing her to fall on the floor. Staff members immediately intervene by pulling the fan away from Chao to de-escalate the situation. However, this was not the only incident the Chinese idol had with a sasaeng.
In another clip filmed in a parking lot, Ling opened the door of his car and leapt towards a woman who had been filming him. He snatched her phone from her grip and threw it away before getting into his car.
As the clips of these incidents went viral, Netizens weighed in to express their opinions. Some said that Ling’s reaction is valid as sasaeng fans can be very difficult and push a celebrity to their limits, while others said that the idol should have stepped back and called the authorities instead of physically intervening.

Ling Chao’s agency also released a statement in which they denied claims that he physically assaulted a person. They further clarified that the incident did not occur at an airport, but at a high-speed rail station. The altercation occurred between a sasaeng fan, and both artists have agreed to settle the situation.
