Chappell Roan took to her Instagram account and shared some pictures from the evening. In the caption, she wrote, “Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit. The look is actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will, it’s really fun and silly :D Thank you for having me @grammys and those who voted for me!!”
Chappell Roan’s garnet-colored dress is a special creation designed by Miguel Castro Freitas for the French luxury fashion label Mugler. Genesis Webb styled her. The chiffon suit had no bodice and included a matching cloak, which Chappell donned on the carpet when she wished to be more covered up. It was inspired by Manfred Thierry Mugler’s Spring/Summer 1998 couture collection.

The singer changed into a more basic archival Rodarte gown to present Best New Artist at the ceremony. Olivia Dean won the award. This year, Chappell was nominated in two categories: record of the year and best pop solo performance for her smash tune The Subway, but she did not win. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar became the night’s largest winner for the second year in a row. He received five accolades, including Record of the Year for Luther.
