Ankur Tewary, Nandita Das And More Call Out The Fashion Show-fication Of Cannes Film Festival
Kinda agree!

This year we saw many Indian actors, actresses and influencers attending the 76th Cannes Film Festival. These celebs became a part of many screenings, displayed glamour and fashion on the red carpet and made Indians proud. However, this year, many people also argued that Cannes seemed more like a fashion event than the biggest film festival in the world. More so because many actors and influencers did not have much to offer on the global platform except their presence in expensive designer outfits.
Many singers and directors criticised the Cannes film festival, especially Indian celebs for walking the red carpet without any work to showcase on such a platform. Singer, Ankur Tewary tweeted his opinion on this. As per this, he called out celebrities for making Cannes red carpet debut without any movies or brand collaborations!
People making a red carpet debut, at a movie festival, despite none of their work playing or a brand taking them there, baffles my mind.

Zwigato director Nandita Das also shared a throwback post on her times in Cannes as she unfortunately could not be a part of it this year. The filmmaker expressed her disappointment in the fact that the festival has become more about clothes than celebrating films. Her comment became quite a debatable one recently!

Director Onir also put forth a similar comment on this debate. He questioned the celebs’ presence at Cannes Film Festival despite the fact that they have no movies selected for the screening or any interest in listening to panel discussions.
Never got it why people go to #CannesFilmFestival just to be clicked wearing all kinds of costumes( very often strange) when they don't have any of their films screening, Nor are they passionate about watching films and panel discussions. Does one really feel good doing this?

Films have been replaced with fashion, wrote director Vivek Agnihotri in this recent ongoing debate about Cannes. He too expressed his disappointment about the slow death of Cannes’ original representation which was about films, not fashion.
Such a naive post coming from the eminent journalist is shocking.

Well, this time we did see many celebs and influencers representing the country on this global platform. The OG Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also made her red carpet appearance once. Actress Anushka Sharma is also going to make her Cannes debut this year.
