BLACKPINK Jennie’s recent off-stage appearance became the topic of a heated debate online after she was spotted hanging out with controversial DJ and music producer Diplo. BLACKPINK is currently in the middle of the European leg of their DEADLINE world tour. Fans were surprised to see Jennie take a short break in Ibiza and even more baffled to see her with Diplo on stage during his set. Read on to know more.
Why BLACKPINK’s Jennie Is Getting Criticised For Hanging Out With Diplo
Clips and photos from the event at Ibiza quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter), drawing mixed reactions. While some BLACKPINK fans saw it as Jennie enjoying her free time with friends amidst a hectic schedule, others criticised her association with Diplo. The famous DJ has faced multiple allegations and lawsuits over the past few years for s*xual misconduct.
Diplo has also worked with BLACKPINK on their new digital single ‘JUMP’. The song is the first track the group has released after a long wait of more than 2 years. Upon its release, ‘JUMP’ quickly went viral and has topped charts everywhere globally. While fans are happy with the song’s success, some of them are not comfortable seeing BLACKPINK members hang out with them, considering their problematic history.
This isn’t the first time Diplo’s name has caused backlash in the K-pop community. Recently, BTS’s RM was also criticised after tagging Diplo in an Instagram post, with some netizens questioning why idols continue to interact with him publicly despite the controversies.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK themselves remain in the spotlight for their DEADLINE. The group recently wrapped shows in Paris and Milan, drawing massive crowds and rave reviews for their performances.
