If you are a longtime K-pop fan, you would remember the McDonald’s BTS meal launched in 2021 and the absolute frenzy it caused. Now, on 18 August, the fast food brand has again announced a new collaboration with the boy group. However, not all fans are happy with this announcement. Read on to know more!

McDonald’s Announces Upcoming Collab With BTS

McDonald’s took to X (formerly Twitter) yesterday to announce their upcoming collaboration with BTS. The company posted a chain of cryptic posts saying, “idk about u but i miss my kpop era a Tiny bit too much.”

BTS fans immediately hawked at the post as they thought that the company was referring to BTS. They also replied to fans by hinting that a big announcement is on the way. Soon, McDonald’s official Instagram account posted a picture that ARMYs recognised instantly. It was a teaser image that featured a Happy Meal box and seven tiny figurines.

Fans soon recognised that the figurines were tiny tans, BTS’ official group characters. The caption for the post read,  “i feel like i personally manifested this, wbu??” While many ARMYs shared their excitement for this upcoming collaboration in the comments by saying that they can’t wait or cannot believe that this is happening, others expressed their disappointment with the collab.

McDonald’s has been one of the most prominent brands featured in the BDS list of boycotts. The current boycott is against all the companies that fund Israel during its ongoing genocide in Gaza. It is allegedly believed that McDonald’s is associated with the IDF (the military wing of Israel). Hence, this is the reason why many fans feel uncomfortable supporting the upcoming BTS and McDonald’s collaboration. Fans took to social media to express their disappointment and criticised the group’s company as well as the members for associating with the controversial brand.
