BTS member J-Hope recently guested on the YouTube variety show Fridge Interview with TWICE’s Sana, and what appears to be a friendly, light-hearted conversation has brought one of K-Pop’s oldest mysteries and fan rumours to light. In the interview, J-Hope and Sana bonded over how often both BTS and TWICE crossed paths during promotions since their debut and many times after that.
What Did BTS’ J-Hope Say About TWICE’s Jeongyeon
As the conversation went along, J-Hope mentioned a surprising fact that he had run into TWICE’s Jeongyeon before her debut, at an open audition! “So when Jeongyeon debuted, I think I met her and was like ‘Oh hey, hey!” he told Sana. This information disclosure caught Sana by surprise, visibly, and she mockingly said that the two should have become friendlier. J-Hope then explained that they weren’t friends and then kindly apologised to Jeongyeon before complimenting her.
Sana then jokingly added that Jeongyeon would have been a bit disappointed. Although the interaction was short and casual, netizens were quick to focus on the use of Jeongyeon’s name, particularly considering the mysterious history or rather ‘beef’, she has had with BTS’s Jimin.
For years, fans have wondered about the nature of Jeongyeon and Jimin’s relationship. Some presume that there was always a tension or dislike between the two. While there has never been an official statement on this topic, the rumours got quite big a few years back.
So when J-Hope simply stated that he knew Jeongyeon before she debuted, it reignited assumptions among fans, and they became hopeful to get more information. However, J-Hope’s answer did not fuel the already existing rumours except for the fact that he knew Jeongyeon before debut. Perhaps, maybe curious fans will get their answers some other day, maybe even from Jimin or Jeongyeon themselves!
