BTS’s world tour announcement created a massive buzz online. Everyone went gaga over multiple stops and the chance to see their idols perform live. But the buzz has turned negative as their upcoming Jakarta concerts in Indonesia face controversy. Tensions are rising due to heated online clashes between Korean and Southeast Asian netizens, leading to debates, calls for cancellation, and concerns over safety. Read on to know!

The group will perform in Jakarta on December 26 and 27 as a part of their ARIRANG world tour. At first, fans were thrilled about seeing the group live. But soon, fights started online between Korean users and people from Southeast Asia. It all began at a concert in Malaysia where a Korean fan used big professional cameras, which blocked other fans’ views. Local fans complained, and some Korean users defended the person. This small issue turned into big arguments.

Things got worse when some attacks turned personal toward BTS member RM, also known as Kim Nam Joon. He faced mean, racist remarks and edited photos that mocked his looks. RM has dealt with unfair comments about his appearance before, but this time it exploded because of the massive online fight. Some worried fans felt the members might not be safe and asked for the Indonesia shows to be removed from the schedule.

However, Indonesian ARMYs did not stay quiet. They said most fans in their country are friendly and love BTS a lot. They explained that a few bad people online do not speak for everyone. ARMYs added that BTS has dealt with similar problems in other countries, but no one asked to cancel those concerts. To show support, fans from Indonesia and around the world started special trends on social media. Hashtags like #PurpleRibbonForRM and #ArmyStandWithRM became popular. People shared kind messages about why they respect RM as the leader.

So far, neither HYBE nor BigHit Music has made any official comment about changing the Jakarta dates.
