Bridgerton‘s Yerin Ha revealed that she was shopping at the time she got the call for the show. The Australian actress has deep roots in Korea. At a recent press conference in South Korea, she revealed her casting process for the hit Netflix show and how the time difference made her tense for the final audition with her co-star. Bridgerton’s Yerin Ha Talks About Tackling Sophie Baek From Her Perspective

The hit period drama, Bridgerton, finally held its South Korean press conference for its current season on March 4, 2026. It took place at Myeongdong Community House Masel, Jung-gu, Seoul. Led by Yerin Ha, the conference covered a multitude of topics, according to Korean media.

She was attracted to the role of Sophie Baek due to the character’s “duality”. Both the confident ‘woman in silver’ and a maid forced into the profession, she presents the perfect reasoning for hiding behind a mask (literally and figuratively). While many have compared Season 4 to Cinderella, Ha does not agree. She says she chose to focus on Sophie’s “layers”, including the traumas she endured as a child. She added that the British accent was a huge part too, as her natural English has a distinct Australian lilt.

Reportedly, Yerin Ha also pointed out that the makers of Bridgerton changed Sophie’s last name to Baek to make the character accurate to her casting. Korean last names rarely get this recognition outside of K-dramas, so this was fairly significant.

Bridgerton’s Yerin Ha Was Nervous Before Her Bridgerton Audition Process

According to media sources based in Korea, Yerin Ha was at Lotte Mart when she got the audition call for Bridgerton Season 4. The actor admitted that her audition with Luke Thompson (who played Benedict Bridgerton) took place at 11 pm Korean time, leaving her uneasy the whole day! She got the confirmation call while at brunch with her mother, she added, at a spot in Gangnam, Seoul.

In a sense, South Korea was part of her audition and her character both. Very poetic, as Yerin Ha is a legacy actor. Her grandmother is veteran actress Son Sook. A Korean media source commented that earlier, Ha was introduced as being related to her grandmother, but now the tables have turned. Wholesome indeed!

According to reports, Yerin Ha spoke about Bridgerton‘s world as idealistic, but she liked that. “[I]t creates a society where people aren’t judged by the color of their skin or by their external factors,” The Korea Times quoted her as saying.
