What Boys Planet II Judge Kim Jae Joong Said
While judging the contestant panel of JYP Entertainment’s group Boy Story members, Jae Joong asked them to focus more on their visuals and appearance. While his tone was friendly, what particularly offended fans was when he told a member to go lose some weight while laughing.
His Clarification
Jae Joong’s comment sparked criticism with multiple viral posts being made about it. People criticised the idol of bodyshaming the trainees. Now, Kim Jae Joong has finally responded to the controversy and explained his intentions. The judge addressed the situation both on his Weverse Live and on Instagram.
In his live, Jae Joong clarified how most trainees were already good performers. The feedback he gave to the trainees was meant to suggest small changes in stage presence. He emphasised how it wasn’t about looks but changes that could further enhance their impact.
He also explained that the broadcast clips were edited and might not reflect the context or tone accurately. After filming, he had private, respectful conversations with the trainee in question and emphasised his genuine support for their growth.
Jae Joong also took to Instagram and expanded on his statement in a comment, apologising for any discomfort caused and asserting that his intentions were misunderstood. He clarified that the dieting comment arose because the trainee himself had already acknowledged it, and the suggestion was never meant to shame but to motivate.
