In the latest news, K-pop group BLACKPINK’s Jennie recently won a lawsuit against a man who falsely claimed to be her father and published a book about the same. A South Korean court ruled the man’s claims to be false, ordered that all publications relating to him alleging to be Jennie’s dad be destroyed. According to Woman Sense, a monthly Korean magazine, it obtained exclusive court documents. In the documents, it was revealed that the Uijeongbu District Court Goyang Branch ruled on May 9 that the claim by a man, who was identified as A, that he is Jennie’s biological father is groundless and false.
Court’s Response To The Man Who Claims To Be BLACKPINK’s Jennie’s Father
The court stated that the defendant does not have any evidence except for his own statements. Meanwhile, the court looked through the plaintiff, Jennie’s official family registry and found out that another man identifies as her father. They then concluded by saying that this proof is enough evidence for determining that the man’s claims are untrue.
How Did It All Start
The controversy started when ‘A’ published an AI-generated book that had Jennie on the cover. In the book’s prologue, the man claimed to be BLACKPINK Jennie’s father. Soon after the book was published, fans got to know about it, and several rumours about the singer started circulating, including one that says that she comes from a wealthy and influential family. However, all these rumours were quickly debunked.
Jennie responded to this situation by filing a lawsuit against the man on 24 December, 2024. Her company, Odd Atelier Entertainment, filed an injunction to prohibit further publication and distribution of the book. Both the man and his publishing company were mentioned in the suit.
The court ruled in Jennie’s favour, announcing that the man’s actions had resulted in reputational damage for the K-pop singer and acknowledged this caused the violation of Jennie’s personal rights. However, a fine or penalty was not imposed on the defendant, but the man was assigned to cover all legal charges for the lawsuit
