BLACKPINK Jennie’s Yatching Rumours Prove How Misogyny Still Runs Deep In K-Pop

BLACKPINK’s Jennie has once again been embroiled in baseless gossip and controversy. A blind item that was previously posted in June on a gossip forum has resurfaced, which accused the famous K-pop idol of ‘yachting’. The term ‘yachting’ refers to taking trips on luxury yachts; however, in the modern context, it is used to describe escort services. Fans have been defending Jennie relentlessly from these accusations and are pointing out how misogynistic and demeaning these are towards the artist. Read on to know more.

Fans Shut Down Baseless Yachting Rumours About BLACKPINK Jennie

The controversy first started when a blind item was published on the site Crazy Days and Nights. The item hinted that a certain member of a ‘two colour group’ had been engaging in yachting. People online were quick to assume that this piece was referring to BLACKPINK’s Jennie, as the group name fits the description aptly.

However, the blind item did not hold any validity or evidence for such a bold claim. Nonetheless, this post quickly went viral on social media, with some people dismissing it as mindless gossip while others tried to dig deeper for more evidence.

In response to this, BLACKPINK’s Jennie fans quickly shut down the rumours and discussed how problematic this entire situation was. They pointed out the misogynistic undertones of the yachting controversy and how it’s usually successful women who become targets of such hate. Jennie going on luxury vacations and spending time with friends should not be a scandal because she is as human as each one of us and deserves private time.

Many also urged BLACKPINK Jennie’s agency OA Entertainment and YG Entertainment to take legal action against those who spread such gossip. This is, unfortunately, not the first time that Jennie has become a target of such misogynistic remarks. In a podcast called Above the Influence, one of the show hosts alleged that someone he knew told him that female K-pop idols, including Jennie, get intimate with wealthy people in exchange for money. However, no evidence was presented to back these bold claims, and the hosts had to apologise for making such offensive remarks.
