BLACKPINK Fans Furious After Controversial Brand Sparks False Collaboration Rumours

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK recently came under controversy, but not for something that they did. Recently, McDonald’s Indonesia had posted some teaser pictures for one of their products that caught the attention of internet users. The brand announced that they are bringing back their Pink Top Black Cone ice cream, which generated rumours of them possibly collaborating with BLACKPINK. This enraged many internet users, as McDonald’s has become a controversial brand in the past few years.

Is BLACKPINK Collaborating With McDonald’s Indonesia?

On October 24, 2025, McDonald’s Indonesia posted about the revival of their Pink Top Black Cone ice cream. “The long-awaited is finally back! Pink Top Black Cone is back with its iconic look and flavour that always makes you miss it. The softness of vanilla ice cream blends with layers of fresh strawberry on top of the crunchy black cone,” wrote the brand in their Instagram post.

However, many netizens were outraged at this announcement as they thought that McDonald’s was collaborating with BLACKPINK. Soon, the group started receiving a lot of hate online for endorsing the brand. McDonald’s reputation has significantly suffered as the company is currently mentioned on the boycott list due to its alleged affiliation with Israel during its ongoing genocide in Gaza.

However, a day later, the collab rumours between BLACKPINK and McDonald’s Indonesia were debunked after it was confirmed that the announcement was for their ice cream and not a collab. Originally launched in 2019, the ice cream called Pink Top Black Cone is a strawberry and black sesame seed-flavoured dessert available only for a limited time.

BLACKPINK fans, however, slammed the brand for allegedly using the group’s signature colour and aesthetic to promote their product with the intention to deceive customers. Meanwhile, others believe that this move was purely a marketing stunt as the group is soon arriving in the country for their DEADLINE concert.
