The producers of Bigg Boss 19 have found themselves in legal trouble after Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) alleged that the show had used copyrighted songs without a license. The popular reality show hosted by Salman Khan has come under fire for unauthorised use of two songs, Chikni Chameli and Dhat Tere Ki. The legal notice was issued to Endemol Shine India, the producers of Bigg Boss 19. Read on to know more.

Legal Notice Sent To Bigg Boss 10 Makers Over Copyright Violation

For context, Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) is India’s biggest music licensing organisation, representing major Indian record labels, including Sony Music Entertainment India. In the notice, PPL has demanded Rs. 2 crore in damages and unpaid license fees, along with a cease-and-desist order against further unauthorised use of the songs.

The notice dated September 19, 2025, was issued by Advocate Hiten Ajay Wasan. The songs were featured in episode 11 of Bigg Boss 19, which aired on September 3, 2025. In their notice, PPL mentioned that the two songs, Chikni Chameli and Dhat Teri Ki, were used without obtaining a license from the organisation, hence amounting to a copyright violation. PPL has also demanded a fine of Rs. 2 crores from the show.

Industry experts have pointed out that such conflicts usually result in confidential settlements, but since this notice is issued by PPL, a giant in the music licensing industry, the issue might take a different turn if there is no resolution. The issue might be taken to court if the Bigg Boss production refuses to pay the fine.
