Bigg Boss OTT season 2 got to witness some toxicity in the house on a Thursday morning. Bebika Dhurve was sharing details about her ex-boyfriend, and how her relationship with him was abusive. Now, any sane-minded and understanding person would know that this is a sensitive topic, and should not be made fun of. But Abhishek Malhan did not think so, and made fun of Bebika and her trauma.

Bebika Dhurve opened up about her boyfriend who was from Jordan, and that things did not work out between them because she did not see a future with him. This led to Abhishek Malhan making fun of Bebika who told her she ‘misuses videsh’ guys. Furthermore, Dhurve also talked about how her first boyfriend would hit her, which left her traumatised. To this, Malhan again made fun of her and said that ‘maar peet’ (hitting and abusing) is common in relationships. Malhan also added that as long as Bebika’s ex did not hit him with a hunter, it was okay.

It’s shocking how Abhishek Malhan was allowed to say this crap on national television. He openly supported abuse in relationships on a platform which is widely watched by people of all ages. Given the fan following that Abhishek Malhan has amassed, he should have been mindful before endorsing abuse in relationships. He was insensitive towards Bebika Dhurve and it was all the more surprising that he did not get pulled up by Bigg Boss for it.

It is because of people like Abhishek Malhan that abusers become more powerful and the victims weaker. Rather than supporting and empathising with her, Malhan made fun of Bebika about a topic which any sane person would never. Malhan joked about Dhurve’s trauma and tried to invalidate her feelings and this is the primary reason why women never talk about experiencing abuse. They know that in society, barring a few, no one will believe them.

Invalidating and making a joke about the victim’s trauma instils fear in the mind of the victimised women who will not speak up about their abuse because they do not be subjected to mockery. Malhan should have clearly thought before speaking up. His toxic thoughts are proof of how abuse is not taken seriously in our country, and the current war between the female wrestlers and ex-WFI chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, is testimony of it.
