Bigg Boss 19: Amaal Malik Opens Up About Cutting Ties With Family, Reveals This Is Why He Did It

Music composer Amaal Mallik, famous for his soulful songs in Bollywood, recently responded to a personal scandal that gained public interest earlier this year. Earlier this year, in March, Amaal posted a heartfelt message on Instagram where he confessed about fighting depression and disclosed that he had cut off all ties with his family. Though the post was later removed, it generated a huge buzz. Now, while appearing on Bigg Boss 19, the singer has finally opened up about the actual reason behind it.
Amaal Mallik On Cutting Family Ties
In a conversation with co-contestant Zeishan Quadri, Amaal described that the post arose out of extreme frustration and emotional fatigue. He informed that he had been dealing with an “identity crisis.” While writing chartbusters, he felt ignored in his own home and in the industry. He made it clear, however, that his relationship with his younger brother, singer Armaan Malik, has never been weak. In his opinion, Armaan never made him feel lesser or overshadowed.
Amaal also referred to ongoing arguments with his mother that contributed to the tension. According to him, whenever he shared his pain in public, somehow people pointed fingers at his family, whether Armaan, his dad Daboo Malik, or even his mother’s upbringing. This, he said, drove him to a breaking point. In anger and desperation, he even proposed either changing his surname or backing away from it himself, and that made matters worse at home.
The artist said that his frustration was multiplied by such personal setbacks as the loss of his pet and a nasty breakup, which collectively prompted him to vent out his anger on social media. Last March, his since-deleted Instagram post had publicly stated that he was clinically depressed and needed space away from his family for the sake of his sanity. He emphasised that his choice was not out of hate but as a step towards healing.
Interestingly, following the scandal, his father confessed in an interview that the family may have unwittingly taken Amaal for granted while giving more attention to Armaan. Presently, Amaal is a part of Bigg Boss 19, where his honesty has already resonated with viewers. The reality show airs on a daily basis on JioHotstar and Colors TV.
